MOCA’s 8th Annual Celebration of Community Heroes
The Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) held the 8th Annual Celebration of Community Heroes in Chinatown, Manhattan on June 12th. This year MOCA honors four driving forces in the Asian-American community that has greatly influenced us and have acted as our heroes throughout the years, including the Ging Hawk Club, a pioneer Chinese-American Women’s Association, our Community Hero Commissioner Wellington Chen, Margaret Lam, and BUBBLE_T. MOCA President Yao said that the Asian-American community has been expanding continuously. The museum has expanded its hero nomination geographically for the first time, from New Jersey and Queens in addition to Manhattan. LGBTQ community gets their awards for the first time.
