Instructions for CAIPA Providers to Order Lab Test

After over a month of planning and preparation work, CAIPA is excited to officially launch the mobile testing across New York City. The followings are instructions and forms you need to refer your patients to testing. If you have any questions, please email to test4covid@caipa.net.

Please refer to NY Department of Health and CDC website for most up-to-date guidelines regarding testing criteria:

Information for Patients

CAIPA is partnering with multiple community organizations to offer COVID-19 testing, which is either by appointment (most preferred) or walk-in. We strongly recommend you request the test through your PCP though it is not required. If your PCP is not currently participating with our testing initiative, they can reach us at test4covid@CAIPA.net for more information.

Nasal pharyngeal swabs are used to test for the novel coronavirus presence utilizing real-time RT-PCR technology. It takes an average of 3 days for the results, which will be provided to your PCP or we will call you with results within 1 week.

We are currently not offering Serology Testing for COVID-19 due to low accuracy in the available point-of-care fingerstick kits. If you are interested in serology testing, we recommend reaching out to your PCP to inquire about lab-drawn serology testing with near 100% accuracy. Serology testing is not used to test for active infections and is best used at least 3 weeks after symptoms resolve to check for the presence of antibodies.

If you do not have a PCP, many providers within the CAIPA network have open clinics and/or offering telehealth.

Call 212.965.9888 (option #1) if you are interested in testing.
