Executive Vice President
Susan Lau brings over 35 years of experience in the healthcare field to CAIPA. As Executive Vice President, Susan works closely with the Board and Executive Team to implement CAIPA’s vision, mission and strategic plans in managed care contracts, quality and utilization review, providers engagement, collaborations with hospitals, other healthcare organizations, and city, state, and federal governmental agencies.
Susan also serves as the Chief Operating Officer of the Asian American Accountable Care Organization (AAACO) and administers the Medicare Shared Savings Program contract with the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), a federal government agency. The AAACO is an affiliated entity of CAIPA formed with the Korean-American Physician IPA (KAPIPA) and the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center. Susan also serves as the Executive Director of the CAIPA Foundation.
Prior to joining CAIPA in 2011, Susan was with the NYU Medical Center (NYUMC) School of Medicine for ten years as Budget Manager and oversaw the funding, financial planning, and performance evaluation of all units within the School of Medicine, including corporate services, basic and clinical science departments, interdisciplinary centers and institutes, faculty group practices. Prior to NYUMC, Susan was with New York Downtown Hospital (the then NYUMC affiliated hospital), for seven years as Associate Vice President for Corporate Development, Associate Vice President of Community Services, and Director of Special Services for the Asian patients and community.
Susan completed her undergraduate studies in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master of Public Health from the University of Michigan. She also practiced occupational and community health programming at the International Ladies’ Garment Workers Union, epidemiology at the New York City Department of Health, and healthcare analytics at the Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York.
